Resources for Helene Victims

Disaster response and recovery assistance can include volunteers helping clean up and rebuild, donations of food, clothing, household goods, funding for temporary housing, grants to replace destroyed belongings, as well as, repair and replace housing.
Assistance is available from a wide variety of sources. Besides your friends and neighbors, this includes local and national charitable organizations, churches, government agencies at the county, state and federal levels.

Appalachian Service Project

“ASP is committed to repairing or replacing at least 200 homes
for families that were impacted by Hurricane Helene.”

Holston Habitat for Humanity

Holston Habitat has begun selecting and will soon begin Helene Relief Home Repair projects in Washington, Carter, and Unicoi Counties. The work will focus on providing repairs such as replacing insulation, subfloors and flooring, HVAC units, electrical work, drywall, and more.

AIDNET of Green County, (Assistance In Disaster NE Tennessee)

AIDNET of Greene County is disaster assistance organization which collects and quickly distributes funding to those in need in the county and coordinates volunteer support.

Empower Cocke County

Mountain Ways

"Mountain Ways offer support to “an individual or family (homeowner or renter) with a 100% total loss of primary residence due to the 2024 flooding of Hurricane Helene in one of the impacted counties. Assistance initiatives will provide a combination of financial support and/or support in areas such as: food, shelter, transportation, medical needs, and funeral expenses to help individuals and families recover.”

The application deadline is December 31, 2024 for initial grants. However, you should monitor the site because they probably will have new grant opportunities in the future.

This can include short term and long term support.

If  you haven’t already done so, it is important to sign up for FEMA support, even if you don’t yet know what you will need. It will be necessary when applying for support in the future, and there is a January 7, 2425 cutoff date for applications!

Home and Vehicle Property Damage

  • Home Damage

  • Vehicle Damage – Examples: Car, truck, motorcycle, van, or other motorized machine that's legal for public roads.

  • Personal Property Damage – Examples: Furniture, electronic equipment, etc.

Emergency Needs

  • Food, clothing, shelter, gas, medication, or medical equipment

  • Essential Utilities – Examples: Utilities like electric, gas, water, or sewer are out.

  • Home Access – Examples: Blocked entry; damage to accessibility equipment like a ramp; unsafe roads or bridges.

Other Expenses

  • Funeral or Reburial Expenses

  • Lodging Expenses – Examples: Paid lodging like hotels, motels, etc.

  • Medical or Dental Expenses

  • New or Extra Child Care Costs

  • Home Safety Item Costs – Examples: Dehumidifier, chainsaw, smoke detectors, etc.

Otherwise you can go to local Disaster Recovery Center locations (DRCs), also called FEMA Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARCs). DRCs are facilities and mobile offices you can visit to learn more about FEMA and other disaster assistance programs. You may also visit to ask questions about your case
